Short story: The Boss

I hate all the people in my department, with their antagonism, their machismo, their relentless bullying and big hands and meaty, manly jowls.

They walk around, slapping each other on on the back, rumbling in low voices about their latest conquests, being self congratulatory about their outstanding performances both at work and outside of work.

I may as well be non-existent.

When I have to stand up and speak to them, I may as well be a badly trained seal at Seaworld who can't even fish for all the respect and interest I get from them.

If anyone has ever said that it's easy being a diminutive, shy bald man in charge of a football team of engineers then I could tell them a thing or two.

I probably wouldn't, though.

This is the result of a fifteen minute writing exercise. The only constrictions were the time limit and five randomly selected words from the dictionary. Today the words were: nonexistent, seal, department, antagonism, and outstanding.
